Tuxtla Gutiérrez

Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the capital and largest city of Chiapas, takes its second name from Joaquín Miguel Gutiérrez, a local liberal leader. It is the gateway to the spectacular Sumidero Canyon.

A common trap: San Cristóbal de las Casas, the famous colonial highland city, was the capital of Chiapas until 1892, but the capital today is Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
