Toluca de Lerdo
Toluca, officially Toluca de Lerdo, is the capital of the State of Mexico (Estado de México), the country’s most populous state, which surrounds Mexico City on three sides. Sitting at about 2,660 meters above sea level, it is the highest state capital in Mexico, near the Nevado de Toluca volcano.
Don’t confuse the State of Mexico with Mexico City (CDMX): they are two different federal entities, and huge municipalities like Ecatepec and Naucalpan belong to the state but are not its capital.
