Morelia

Morelia is the capital of the state of Michoacán, in western Mexico. Founded in colonial times as Valladolid, it was renamed in 1828 in honor of independence hero José María Morelos, who was born there.

Its historic center, built of pink quarry stone, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Do not confuse it with Pátzcuaro or Uruapan, other well-known Michoacán cities that are not the capital.
