Mérida (México)

Mérida, known as ‘the White City,’ is the capital of Yucatán and the largest city in southeastern Mexico. It was founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo on the site of the Maya city of T’hó, and stones from Maya temples were reused in its colonial buildings.

Don’t confuse it with Cancún, which lies in the neighboring state of Quintana Roo, whose capital is Chetumal.
