Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca, capital of Morelos, is known as the “city of eternal spring” for its mild climate, which has made it a favorite getaway from Mexico City since colonial times. Hernán Cortés built his palace there, one of the oldest conserved colonial buildings in Mexico.

The state is named after independence hero José María Morelos y Pavón; its second city, Cuautla, played a famous role in the independence war but is not the capital.
