José Clemente Orozco

José Clemente Orozco (1883–1949), from Jalisco, was one of the ‘three greats’ of Mexican muralism, together with Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. His murals, marked by a dramatic and often tragic vision of history, include ‘Man of Fire’ in the Hospicio Cabañas in Guadalajara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Of the three greats, remember: Rivera is the most famous internationally, Siqueiros was the political activist and technical innovator, and Orozco was the dark, expressionist tragedian.
