Diego Rivera

Diego Rivera (1886-1957) was one of the central figures of Mexican muralism. Between 1929 and 1935 he painted the monumental murals on the main stairway of the National Palace in Mexico City, depicting the history of Mexico from the pre-Columbian era to modern times.

Rivera was married to painter Frida Kahlo and, together with José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros, formed ‘los tres grandes’ of muralism; do not mix him up with the other two, who painted in other buildings.
