Kickapoo

The Kickapoo are an Indigenous people of Algonquian origin who came to Mexico from the Great Lakes region of the United States in the nineteenth century. In 1852 the Mexican government granted them land at El Nacimiento, in the municipality of Múzquiz, Coahuila, in exchange for defending the northern border.

Today they are the best-known Indigenous people of Coahuila. They keep their language and ceremonies, and many families move between Coahuila and Kickapoo communities in Texas and Oklahoma.
