Cri-Cri, the Little Singing Cricket

Francisco Gabilondo Soler (1907–1990), from Orizaba, Veracruz, is Mexico’s great composer of children’s music. In 1934, on XEW radio, he created Cri-Cri, “the Little Singing Cricket”, the character through whom he sang his songs.

His hundreds of songs, such as “El Ratón Vaquero” (“The Cowboy Mouse”), are still sung by heart all over Mexico. Don’t confuse him with Agustín Lara, XEW’s other great composer, who wrote romantic boleros.
