World Cups in Mexico

Mexico was the first country to host the FIFA World Cup twice, in 1970 and 1986; both finals were played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. In 2026 it became the first country to host three times, sharing the tournament with the United States and Canada.

Older study guides say “1970 and 1986” because they were written before 2026. Don’t confuse these World Cups with the 1968 Olympic Games.
