Mexico City 1968 Olympic Games

The 1968 Olympic Games were held in Mexico City from October 12 to 27, 1968, under President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz. They were the first Olympics held in Latin America, and Enriqueta Basilio became the first woman to light the Olympic cauldron.

The Games took place a few days after the massacre of students at Tlatelolco on October 2, 1968. At them, the swimmer Felipe “El Tibio” Muñoz won a gold medal for Mexico.
