Charrería
Charrería is Mexico’s national sport. It grew out of the ranch work of hacienda horsemen and was formalized as a sport in 1933, when its national federation was created and rules for competition were set.
In a charreada, teams of charros perform roping and riding feats in a lienzo charro, and women compete in the escaramuza. In 2016 UNESCO inscribed charrería on its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
