Germán Cueto and Estridentismo
Germán Cueto (1893–1975) was a Mexican sculptor and a pioneer of modern sculpture in Mexico, known for his experimental masks and abstract works. He explored new materials and three-dimensional forms at a time when mural painting dominated the country’s art.
He was linked to Estridentismo, the Mexican avant-garde movement of the 1920s that brought together poets and artists inspired by machines, cities and modern life.
